Since the our organization formation, in 2007, contacts have been made with many rescue groups. Dogs and cats are transported to rescue organizations on a weekly basis, through out the region. Volunteers shuttle groups of animals through what we call the "underground railroad" as far as Chicago , Cincinnati, and the Wisconsin area, to responsible rescue groups who hold adoption fairs at various local locations including PetSmart and Petco, or their no-kill shelter. The animals are fully vetted prior to adoption and the groups thoroughly qualify the adopter to make sure the new home is a "forever home" and a good match. If you enjoy driving, we could use your help for trips to various locations through out the region.
We hold adoption fairs, the first Saturday of each month from 1pm -3pm at our Humane Society Adoption Center at 1176 North Gardner. We are always needing volunteers to help with these events.
A Low Cost Spay/Neuter program is offered where dogs and cats from the community can be altered for a reduced cost and animals from the shelter are also fixed. Contact us at (812) 752-7500 about this program. Leave a message and one of our volunteers will contact you.
